WEST LONG BRANCH - Shore Regional High School sealed the deal on their 13th straight win on Friday against Mater Dei Prep with a 45-6 victory.

The first quarter was characterized by a grinding Mater Dei defensive goal line stop. However, that did not dampen any Blue Devil efforts. Driving 41 yards in three plays, Shore Regional scored their first touchdown as quarterback Matt Pennell connected with captain, Connor Rempel for a 20-yard pass.

The next Blue Devils drive resulted in another touchdown after running back Jack Britton’s 52-yard run to extend the lead to 14-0. Britton went on to score yet another touchdown on the following drive, strengthening Shore’s defiant lead with a 19-yard sweep to the house.

In the second quarter alone, Shore racked up 24 points, leaving for the locker room at halftime after a 20-yard field goal. This quarter was also characterized by a Shore sack delivered by senior defensive end Erik Graham, leaving Blue Devils spirits high.

As the second half started, it didn’t take long for Shore’s offense to find its stride once more. After a 47-yard drive, ending in a 34 yard pass to Rempel the score reached 31-0.

A fast paced Mater Dei Prep offense responded with an even faster quarterback Kyle Devaney who scored his first and team’s only touchdown after he rushed into the end zone on a 14-yard keeper.

Although Mater Dei strung together two drives with five total first downs, their offense could not seal either drive with a score. The Blue Devils offense simply had too many facets to it.

The second half was the Devin McLaughlin show, where the senior fullback scored two touchdowns and rushed for 51 yards in just those two scoring drives.

After the game head Blue Devils coach, Mark Constantino said, “we played a good solid game, they’re a good team, they’re young but they’re good, but we played a solid four quarters, so I was very happy with our performance.”

And happy they were, as the Blue Devils walked away with nothing but smiles.

“They’re good, they have a nice spread team and they made some plays, the quarterback was a good little athlete,” said Constantino.

The head coach also added that, “We need to see that kind of stuff because down the road we are going to see more spread offenses, so we just have to get ready for next week, stay healthy, and try to make a run!”
